Clean Slate

I walk softly through the remains
of a life I once lived.
Memories fill the ash and plume
with forgotten cries.

Sadness cleansed, a triumph
over a clinging identity.
Things worked and sweated over
no longer have their hold
on a soul that walks barefoot
through the place its body dwelled.

Renewed, I start again
like a sprout pushing toward the light.
Stronger, I know all I need
is within me, and the strength of spirit
to rise up once again.
