Tamed and Wild

It’s a special bond that we share.
My horse may be tacked and bridled
but its pure heart is wild and free.

At one with the untamed country.
Trotting towards the ocean’s trail
as the sea keeps calling to me.

A strong connection of a love,
unhindered by entanglements
and complex affairs of the heart.

Unconditional; mutual.
Our friendship was formed with great trust,
an understanding from the start.

Familiar mould of the saddle.
The leather that warms in my hands.
Sun’s welcoming rays on my back.

A soft, salty breeze welcomes us.
My buddy and I are content,
as we trot down the sandy track.

Tamed and Wild was originally published on my first blog in 2017. It was inspired by a piece written by Alex Woodard, a musician and writer, regarding the bond he shared with his horse. As I read his words, I began to daydream about the beauty of such a deep connection, eventually writing these verses to capture that sense of a wild yet loyal spirit.
