Accepting The Past: Spiritual Lessons and The Power of Change

A Note From Angela Woolcott (2025)

This post is shared for historical reference to help document my journey as a writer and author. It was originally published in 2017 on my first blog and reflects my personal and creative journey at that time.

I used to live with a persistent ghost: the ‘What If’ voice in my head. It haunted every quiet moment, forcing me to endlessly re-run the reels of my past. I wished I could change things; the bad decisions I made, the way others treated me, and sometimes, in my darkest moments, I even yearned to change the world itself.

Now, though, I have come to realise that if I could magically erase my mistakes, life wouldn’t have been able to deliver its most profound lessons. I have learned that life is my own personal course, my major subject in this existence.

I have come to understand that these experiences, these ‘mistakes, are essential markers that continually point me back toward my goals and my purpose in life.

If we do our best, God will do the rest.

How Meditation Has Transformed My Life

Meditation has helped me let go of the intrusive thoughts that often take over, consistently reminding me to breathe and replace negative thinking with positive affirmations. I can now centre myself and re-evaluate my judgments about people, situations, and myself, replacing them with kindness and compassion.

Even a few minutes in the morning, or before I go to sleep, can help prepare me for the day ahead. This is time that I know is worth investing in, for myself and my mental health and for my loved ones.

Messages From Spirit That Have Helped Me

I have learned to listen to the subtle messages from spirit that remind me of my strength and guide my path. These truths have helped me immensely to accept the challenges in my life. Things that I used to view as bad experiences, I can now view as stepping stones for resilience, forgiveness and a more joy-filled life.

I know I faced these challenges for a reason and wrote down the following messages:

  • I gained the wisdom that comes from knowing a better way of doing things.
  • I found the knowledge to be more discerning.
  • I developed the conscience to be more empathic.
  • I felt the empowerment that comes from having experience that strengthens me.
  • I acquired the skills necessary to teach others, which in turn made me a better parent.
  • I found comfort in knowing I can get through anything and that help comes when I ask for it.
  • I felt the love that grows and enfolds me when I repent and forgive.
  • I learned the modesty that comes from knowing a higher power wants me to be better and to be humble.
  • I found the peace that flows from letting go and trusting my destiny will unfold.
  • I experienced the growth of my soul, which allows my light to burn a little brighter.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

 Changing The Way I Live

When I stay true to myself and follow a pure path, I know I am not only bettering myself but evolving as one with all humankind, which leads me in the right direction. But I know, I must remember to ask for guidance and do my best. Change is a necessary process in my life. I may not have the power to change my past, but I can change the way I live in the present.
