Miracles Are All Around Us: Synchronicity, Gratitude, and Dandelion Seeds

A Note From Angela Woolcott (2025)

This post is shared for historical reference to help document my journey as a writer and author. It was originally published in 2017 on my first blog and reflects my personal and creative Journey at that time.

In this post, I share a personal story of synchronicity, proving that miracles are all around us when we stop and connect with the subtle magic of nature.

As I got in my car after the gym, a bit of fluff floated out of the air onto my lap. I thought for a moment that it was something angelic, a feather or a flower, and then realised it was just a bit of woolly fluff from the car seat cover. I thought, ‘Mmm, if only there was magic in my life. Oh well.’

I drove off, imagining the scene from the movie ‘Avatar’ where the tree of life sent a white seed floating toward the main character, choosing them as its intended saviour, then floated off like a jellyfish. I remember thinking, when I watched that scene, that it looked just like a fluffy white seed I wished on when I was a kid. My siblings and I called them ‘Christmases’. We would catch them, make a wish, and gently blow them away again.

My kids now do the same if they see them. My parents taught us this name for the white, fluffy seeds of what I now know are dandelion flowers. I suppose they called them Christmases because it had an air of magic about it. Perhaps, I thought I could tell Santa Claus what I wished for.

When I got home later that day, I was busy doing housework, but I felt a calling to stop what I was doing and go out to the backyard to reconnect with nature. When I stood there, a white, fluffy seed floated down in front of me. Wow! I was speechless, and it sparked a sense of childhood magic. I reached out and caught it in my hand. I held it close to my lips and whispered a wish secretly to it.

I felt in that moment that my wish was fulfilled, so I blessed it, thanked it, and the universe, feeling only gratitude. I walked back inside feeling fulfilled.

Later, when I was listening to a podcast of Gregg Braden, he spoke of feeling gratitude and sending it out into the world. I loved the synchronicity and felt so connected to spirit. I had another calling to go outside then, and an aqua-coloured butterfly flew past me. It had been visiting the garden on and off for a week. I had been missing my dad lately. He passed away in 2014, and I spoke to him now and then when I was in the garden alone, especially when I saw a butterfly.

Last Day Of Summer

It was the last day of summer, and I felt like it was a farewell to all the fun we’d had with the kids during the hot weather. Swimming, snorkelling and bodyboarding were our favourite things to do during this season in our coastal town. Although I felt a twinge of sadness, I knew that the shifting of the seasons was a reminder to let go and embrace change. Autumn was a time for change, as trees shed their leaves, preparing and fortifying for the winter ahead.

It is a reminder to go within and shed old patterns, resentments and fears. The miracle of nature strengthens my connection to my purpose, to find balance and ground myself. Placing my feet on the ground, I thanked the butterfly and the summer sun and calmed my mind before the busy afternoon ahead of me, with school pickup and afternoon martial arts activities. There were other things we could do in the cooler months to come.

Finding Gratitude

Like the seeds of the dandelion flowers, which released their seeds to go out and start again, I felt comforted that my life was filled with so many blessings that were gently floating around me. I felt a light go out of me, allowing me to expand and connect by trying new things. Not something I was good at normally, being an introvert.

There’s something comforting about floating seeds and butterflies that remind us we are safe, no matter what we face, that we will be alright. It brings us back to gratitude. The message came to me then, ‘Miracles are all around us when we see with the eyes of gratitude.’

I raced inside and wrote it down to share. After all, what is a miracle or message if it isn’t shared with others to inspire?
